Many nonprofits are interested in having corporate sponsors on their donor lists. Not only do they bring prestige and attention to the nonprofit, but this partnership also validates their importance in their communities and to prospective donors. For the corporation, this relationship builds their social responsibility portfolio.

So how can your nonprofit organization attract corporate sponsorship? The first step is ensuring that the corporations you target align with your nonprofit’s mission. Additionally, you should appeal to larger businesses in your immediate community instead of only focusing on Fortune 500 companies.

Next, you need to develop a personal connection with someone on the board or in a higher management position. Cold-calling is rarely an effective way to form these corporate partnerships. Take time to get to know individual people involved in the company.
